During our recent Team Building event we were asked to write a story about how RISQ Consulting lives the values of our guiding tenents. I immediately knew that I wanted to write an Alaskan themed fable illustrating the importance of our four Client Experience Compass elements, but in the process of writing, the story took on a life of it’s own and became a children’s bookesque poem about our first element: the Platinum Rule.
Platinum Rule: Treat our clients the way they want to be treated.
Otter and Others
Otter was a bossy pup
Right from birthday one.
He always bossed others ‘round
HIS way was number one.
“You otter do it my way” he’d say,
“You otter listen to me.
You otter behave the way I do
If you really wish to succeed”
He told the ptarmigan to build his home
Right on the inlet and sea.
“That’s the place to spend your days.
I know.
You otter listen to me.”
He told the moose to dive for clams.
“They’re as yummy a treat could be.
That’s the food you need to eat.
I know.
You otter listen to me.”
He told the salmon, “To stay together
Holding hands is the key.
It’s the only way to not get lost.
I know.
You otter listen to me.”
But one day he looked around
And his friends were nowhere to be.
It seems his advice was not tailored to them
So they left because they did not agree.
Otter was puzzled, confused, and befuddled
“These things always worked out for me.
Do animals do things different from each other
In ways I just could not see?
So otter started to pay attention.
He observed the creatures around.
He saw how they lived, how they ate, how they played
And what he learned was truly profound
“Each animal is quite unique.” He surmised,
“Each one deserves relevant advice.
Whenever I think that my way is best,
I really otter think twice.”
